Rarenium CI4 FA
CI4 stands for Carbon Interfusion with the 4 referring to the number of electrons in the Carbon atom. Ultimately, this means CI4 is reinforced Carbon Fiber.

It is over one and a half times stronger than our normal XT-7 graphite and is over 20% lighter. Because it does not contain metal, it is impervious to rust.

So, as a result of its strength and weight, we can create an extremely lightweight reel with very precise tolerances.

Another must-see Shimano launch for 2010 is the Rarenium front drag family of reels, built around Ci4 space age technology. Smallest of the quartet, the 1000FA, weighs just 175 grams and has a spool capacity of 140yds of 4lb line. Largest is the 4000FA which takes 160yds of 12lb, and tips the scales at 260 grams. All three are packed with high-end features including brass gear, six Shielded AR-B bearings, Cold Forged Aluminium spools, Aero Wrap II, Machined Aluminium single handle plus Maintenance Port.
