Catch Report: Fishing for squid Part 3
11 June 2009
10.30pm - 3.30am(5hrs)

Catch Report for squid fishing will end here. This is the part 3 version of the squid fishing action in Singapore. I hoped to get a chance to try out squid fishing in Malaysia, our neighbouring country if there's a chance.

Jake, my regular fishingkaki was doing fishing with me for the night. At the time of arrival, we started off with the night quite well as it was in-coming tide. The first 15mins, we landed 4 squids and missed a few. All of them were around palm size or smaller. Hence, it seems that its quite difficult to try getting them to stuck onto the squid jig.
This time, I had the Shimano Bass One fishing rod for squid fishing. This rod is extremely light and sensitive because of its rod taper and material used. Previously, I was using the Bassterra which I found was suitable for fishing squid as well. The Shimano Bass One is probably a better rod to use if you are casting smaller and lighter squid jigs.
I would like to feature Jake in my Catch Report because I felt that he is a very good squid fisherman. He would probably outfish me most of the time because he is very hardworking in "baking" the squid jigs with powerful torches. While, I would take it easy most of the time as it was considered as leisure fishing for me.
Jake landed this big squid when we were busy talking about our fishing histories. This big fat mama took line from his Shimano Soare, a speciallised squid fishing reel on his size 2.5 Yamashita squid jig.
Somehow, I always felt that the Shimano Soare squid fishing reel which he is holding onto is a real killer. Probably the sole reason why he is always more productive than others. I have the luxury of trying it and found out that its extremely sensitive and smooth. The rotor simply revolves as though it is floating in the air. A nice reel indeed.
I stained my shirt during squid fishing and I wonder if I can wash away the black markings from the squids. Squid fishing is very suitable for ladies because it isn't messy and smelly at all. Ladies just need to learn the basic operation of the fishing rod and reel. With a little practice on casting, you could be catching squid in no time. You just need to be careful when you are bringing up the squid as they would let out a jet of "ink" which would stain your dressings.
